Petit Ardi Gasna and Ridder
July 5th, 2008 | by tb |
Picked up this Ossau Iraty style cheese from the French Pyrenees / Basque region to go with a July 4th tapas meal. The color was what attracted me. This cheese is coated in Piment d’Espelette. Texture was semi-firm to firm with a wonderful nutty aroma and taste, and a slight sweetness, but very well balanced. Highly recommended!
The second cheese we had (not really appropriate for tapas, but was quite different from the Ardi Gasna) was a Ridder. A cow’s milk that was semi-soft (on the creamy side), with a color and taste like butter. Definitely a rich cheese. Recommended in small quantities.
