Garrotxa
August 7th, 2008 | by tb |Today we tried Garrotxa (pronounced gah-ROTCH-ah), which is a goat’s milk cheese from the Catalonia region in northern Spain. It comes in small one kilo wheels and has a wonderful grayish, faint blue mold rind. The texture is semi-soft. The aroma is a bit light, as is the taste. I picked up some slight nut and fruit, and mild grass notes. Unobtrusive is the best way to describe this cheese. The texture is nice, the aroma is pleasant, and the taste a nice balance of flavors. If you want to read more about this cheese, there is a wonderful article in Food and Wine about the gentleman who led the Spanish cheese revival in the late 70′s, with a good explanation about reviving Garrotxa production and exports. Recommendation: Yeah, I’ll have another piece please!
