Berkswell

November 9th, 2008 | by tb |

I was hanging out with the SO in Philly before my flight to London and we stopped by DiBruno Bros. to get her some cheese for the week (I’m slowing turning her into a cheese adict too). One of the cheese mongers was in a gregarious mood and was sharing some of his favourites that the cheese shop had recently received. One of the selections was Berkswell from Neal’s Yard Dairy (the other was a fanstastic, rustic, hand-made Morbier which stayed in my mouth for hours it was so pungent, but so very very good too).

Berkswell is made in Ram Hall, Warwickshire, Great Britain. It’s made from unpasteurised sheeps milk cheese that has a firm interior. The color was pale white. The texture was dryish and a bit flakey. It had a rich taste with notes of nuts and stone fruits. The taste lingered quite a bit and finished a bit dry, but still fruity. I’m looking forward to trying some more cheese from Neal’s Yard this coming weekend.

Update (17-Nov): Added a picture I snagged while in Neal’s Yard by Borough Market.
