Barely Buzzed
May 25th, 2009 | by tb |Another Sunday afternoon, another trip to Tria since they had Dock Street Dunkel-Berlinerweiss on tap, and who can’t resist a Berlinerweiss on a warm summer day! The local (e.g., Northeast, Mid-Atlantic) cheese selections were non-existent, so I went for anything from the U.S. There was a really interesting cheese from Beehive Cheese Company in Uintah, Utah, named Barely Buzzed. The first cheese from Utah I’ve tasted!
Barely Buzzed is a cave-aged cow’s milk cheese that, according to the company’s website, has an oil-rubbed rind of “…[t]urkish grind of Colorado Legacy Coffee Company’s (The Cheesemakers brother) “Beehive Blend” that is combined with lavender.
The aroma had some butterscotch and toasted nut notes. The paste was semi-firm and similar to a sharp Cheddar. It was a bit sharp, but with some sweetness too. This was a really nice cheese that would work well on a cheese plate as a fun alternative to aged Cheddar. Kudo’s to Tria for pairing the cheese with chocolate-covered espresso beans. It was a nice change of pace from having another spread accompanying a cheese and worked really well with this cheese.
