Beacon Blue

Second on the UK grocery store cheese comparison is Tesco’s Finest – Beacon Blue made by Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses. Just by chance, this is the same cheese maker who makes Kinderton Ash, via their Ravens Oak Dairy.
This blue is made from goats milk cheese. The natural rind has a nice rustic texture and color. The paste is smooth and more buttery than dry, suggesting this is a youngish cheese (aged about five weeks according to the Butler’s website). It has a fresh goats milk flavor with a mild blue taste that wasn’t overly salty.
I thought Beacon Blue to be a very accessible blue cheese that will appeal to a lot people. The cheese didn’t really wow me, but as an every day blue cheese, it’s quite good. Considering it’s available at Tesco, availability (in the UK) should be fine and the price is reasonable.
